GED Special Editions

The GED Tests are available in U.S. and Canadian English-language, Spanish-language, and French-language editions. Special editions of the English-language GED Tests are available in Braille, large print, and audio cassette formats.

Official Practice GED Tests printed editions are available in English, French and Spanish. An audio cassette edition and large print edition of the Official Practice GED Tests are also available in English only.

According to GEDTS, accommodations are available on the GED tests "... for candidates with a documented physical, sensory, emotional, or specific learning disability. These accommodations may be requested by candidates who have disabilities that can be expected to negatively impact upon the candidate's chances of passing the GED Tests."

Approved accommodations are determined by the needs of persons with documented disabilities. Possible accommodations include:

  Audio cassette edition
  Braille edition
  Large print edition
  Extended time
  Scribe
  Private room
  Frequent, supervised breaks
  Calculator

The following accommodations are not allowed:

  Word processors
  Spell checking programs
  Readers
  Disabilities - must be approved by GEDTS)

The following test-taking strategies require no formal documentation but do require prior notice to the examiner.

  Large Print Edition of the GED Tests
  Straight-edge ruler or guide with no markings
  Graph paper for working out math problems
  Colored overlays
  Incandescent or halogen lighting rather than fluorescent
  Request to be seated away from windows

In addition to the candidate’s checklist, there are four different forms for requesting special accommodations:

To begin the process of requesting an accommodation, the GED candidate may print these forms or obtain the appropriate accommodation request form from the local GED examiner.  If you have questions about completing the forms, contact your local GED examiner.
